Lawmakers in Delaware decided to vote down the bill that would allow sports betting in the state. Jack Markell, who is the governor of the state of Delaware, had proposed a gambling expansion, because he hoped that he could raise bout $ 55 million in incomes for the state.

But because of two votes at the Delaware House of Representatives, his plan didn’t succeed.

The idea of Markell was to expand also gaming at the state’s three racetrack/casinos and a larger state share of slot machine incomes to prevent additional cuts in the fiscal 2010 budget.

Besides, he also proposed an 8% salary cut for all state workers. The racetrack/casinos were against this proposal, because they claimed that such a thing would just drive them out of business.

Patty Key, who is the CEO of Harrington Raceway, expressed her opinion to Wilimington News-Journal, telling that the larger state take of slot machine income would cost the track $ 3. 2 million and that it wouldn’t make any money from sports betting.
